All of Aubrey Da Gama plugs slide up a leader line. Aubrey Da Gama Plugs must be retrieved at a quick pace therefore reels need a quick gear ratio of between sto1 & 6 to 1. When fishing for Kingfish you can reel as quick as possible. With Garrick & Yellowtail a slightly slower retrieve is needed making sure that your lure does not jump out of the water, but rather glides over the top. Kingfish don't mind if it jumps on the surface as can be seen in the video clip. Colour of lure as the saying goes the brighter the day the brighter the lure for example early morning. At first light a black or blue Mackriel Lure can be used while at midday a chartreuse or pearly white or red head plug can be used.
While spinning look for bait balls (Bait Fish Congregating) this is one way of knowing that there are predators/game fish in the area becuase they chase the individual bait fish which eventually join up forming a bait ball (Safety in numbers). . Cast over it pulling your surface plug over it or down the sides of it. Game fish have now chased these frantic bait fish into a tight knit ball preying on them as they break off so pulling your aubrey da gama plug down the sides looks like bait fish which have broken away from the bait ball. Once you see the splash or fish following your lure, don't slow your retrieve rate down if anything reel slighlty quicker until you feel the hook up then the fun begins.
to look for is terns dipping on the water. When fishing for garrick if you see one or two common terns dipping on the surface within casting distance cast your Aubrey Da Gamma plug past the dipping birds & pull your plug at a quick retrieve 9 times out of 10 you will see the splash behind your plug & get a hook up. The reason why these birds do this is that game fish have pushed up sprats (small bait fish) to the surface or small pieces of fish have floated up to the surface for them to feed on.
